This is not really archiving. It is really another mode, like synchronisation i.e. deletions and moves of emails between folders, folder renaming and deletion etc. are all reflected in the 'backup/archive'. Full synchronisation could be achieved simply via a possibly resource intensive wipe and complete refresh of the database records each time it is run (useful and simple to implelent), otherwise I suspect it would have to be much more sophisticated.
